Promenade Festival
12-20 June 2010
Promenade (Dome) square, Barbican moat
One of the biggest summer events brings back the old communal feeling on what many consider to be one of the loveliest of Europe's promenades, Pécs's Sétatér. Ringed by World Heritage Sites and given shade by the horse-chestnut trees, the promenade receives its original character: its old vivacity is brought back to life; once again it turns into a meeting-place for the citizens of Pécs and a destination for leisure-seeking tourists. The freshest Hungarian performers on the light music scene take to the stage, as do noted foreign bands, but contemporary jazz musicians and young Pécs formations are not forgotten, either. Alongside all this there are world and folk music concerts, performances and dance productions, with children's events at the weekend.
