21st Pécs Folk Days

Uránia Cinema

International Folk Music Festival

20-22 May 2010

The oldest large-scale festival of Southern Transdanubia, which began in 1986. The Folk Days events parade the Hungarian music within and beyond the border as well as the cream of vocal and instrumental music of the Carpathian Basin, and offering an opportunity to become acquainted with the musical traditions of other European peoples and further-off, more exotic cultures, too. During the events, besides authentic presentation of folk and traditional village music, also appear ensembles seeking for new pathways, using folklore as a deep resource, crossing over with bands from popular music scenes. Moreover, folk dance lessons accompany every night after the concerts.

Csík Zenekar

The 3-days-long festival boasts such number one bands like Csík Band, Makám, Simply English, Szélkiáltó, Vizin Ensemble, Zengő & Szászcsávási Ensemble (from Transylvania) and Vedan Kolod (from Russia, Siberia).

Organised as the official event of Pécs2010 – European Capital of Culture project.
