Introduction

"Adventure and Expertise"

The variety and rate of change in cultural demands makes it important for us to continually refresh our sphere of activity. Our way of looking at things, based upon the rich traditions and intercultural characteristics of the region, as well as our dedication to expose local intellectual and artistic potential, guarantee that our innovative initiatives appear as a colourful palette on the region's cultural scene.

Our long-term plans are executed bearing in mind a combination of local demand, international trends and modern tendencies in cultural transmission. We reconceptualise the term "centre" in the conceptual environment of transmission and penetrability: we guarantee points of contact, orientation and long-term partnerships for people with new ideas, so that, similarly to those enjoying institutionalised, wide social acceptance, the city will be able to change them into valuable, active creative contributors. We accept our role as an open, receptive centre without borders that unifies variety in achieving the original priorities set out for Cultural Capital of Europe - Pécs 2010. Our aim is to strengthen our relationships with universities and research and artistic communities through the mutual and complementary organisation of music, large-scale art and scientific events, conventions and conferences.

For Pécs and the cities with which it maintains cultural partnerships, as well as for other cities which like Pécs are cultural capitals, our most recent projects guarantee the enrichment of city marketing profiles that are aware of the treasures in their possession, with the participation leading international researchers and artists, discovering new and fertile contacts and creating long-term scientific and artistic cooperation. Our plans will be facilitated by the completion by 2010 of the new Pécs Conference and Concert Centre.
